Neelam Singh, Certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor
Neelam is a certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor and is a current member of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (“NAMA”). Using traditional and authentic principles from Ayurveda, she works with clients to enable them to live in a manner that is consistent with their natural state of balance — in effect, helping them optimize their physical, spiritual, emotional and mental health. This includes implementing dietary and other lifestyle changes to maintain or achieve thisbalance. As clients re-establish an intimate connection to their bodies, they often times feel empowered to take control of their own physical and mental well-being.
As a child of Asian-Indian immigrants, Neelam’s household incorporated many elements from Yoga and Ayurveda.
However, it was not until later in life, when Neelam was dealing with certain health issues that she truly realized the power and benefits of Ayurveda and Yoga. Since then, Neelam has embraced her ancestral wisdom humbly and with devotion, love and gratitude.
Neelam hosts workshops on various topics including “Eating for Your Dosha - Food as Medicine,” “Balancing the Chakras,” “Ayurvedic Cooking,” and “Integrating Authentic Teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda for Modern Living.”
Neelam is also on the board of trustees for Vedic International Institute for Science & Arts (VIISA), a non-profit with the mission of promoting Vedic Sciences & Arts in America and worldwide through education, humanitarian work and offering Ayurvedic-based treatments.
The initial consultation is between 1 to 2 hours. In this consultation, Neelam will assess the client’s body/mind constitution and assess any imbalances by obtaining detailed information on the client’s diet, lifestyle habits, digestion and elimination; assessing the tongue; and analyzing the pulse. Neelam will then work with the client over a period of time to address any imbalances through diet, lifestyle changes, herbs, meditation, yoga and breathing exercises. The fee for an initial consultation is $150.00. Any follow ups are billed at $50.00 an hour.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a holistic health and wellness system with origins in India. It approaches health and wellness in a customized and personal way by embracing individual differences. It recognizes that our bodies and minds are comprised of 5 elements: either/space, air, fire, water and earth. The elements manifest themselves in 3 mind-body constitutions: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each person is born with a unique proportion of these elements. When we consciously adopt daily practices and seasonal routines that sustain this unique proportion, we are enhancing our overall health and preventing disease. When we engage in behavior that changes this proportion, we become imbalanced and that may affect not only our physical body, but our minds. Over time and if left unchecked, the imbalances can travel deeper and lead to more serious health complications or manifest as disease. Ayurveda is all about maintaining our natural state of balance and correcting any imbalances so as to prevent disease down the road.
Some common conditions that Neelam has worked with clients on include digestive-related issues, low energy, low motivation, low appetite, insomnia, mood imbalances, depression, vertigo, ringing in the ears, weight-related issues and skin diseases.
